The idea of DPO support grant originated in 2018-2019 and was successfully debuted in 2020. It started as the next step of evolution of national advocacy, following a Fellowship. In some countries, TCI saw the emergence of strong leaders, however, it was not possible for them to sustain their work due to lack of mentorship, and small amounts of funding. The “DPO support grant” therefore was a new instrument for TCI, towards national empowerment. Typically, a national leader would be eligible for a DPO support grant.
